Louisiana HS athletics is the only state-level system with an enrollment-classed-plus-select/non-select postseason split across multiple sports. Combined with hurricane-season schedule realities and SEC-density recruiting, LHSAA ADs operate a calendar most other states don't recognize. Lightning for Schools is built for LHSAA athletic directors: Louisiana RS 17:3914-compliant student-data handling and pricing with 10 included coach seats plus low-cost extras.
Built for LHSAA
Governing Body
Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA)
Member-school eligibility rules, classification, and championship workflows shape what an athletic department needs from its software. Lightning for Schools is configured to support LHSAA-aligned workflows out of the box — not generic NFHS templates that don't map to your state's specifics. Reference:

Compliant with Louisiana Revised Statute 17:3914 (Act 837 of 2014)
Student Data Privacy
Louisiana Revised Statute 17:3914 (Act 837 of 2014)
Louisiana RS 17:3914 — enacted as Act 837 of 2014 — protects personally identifiable student information under the right-to-privacy guarantees of both the Louisiana and U.S. Constitutions. The statute bars selling, transferring, sharing, or processing student data for commercial advertising or marketing, restricts sharing PII with third parties absent a statutory exception, and carries criminal penalties up to $10,000 or three years imprisonment for knowing and willful violations. Lightning's data-handling practices are built to meet these requirements; a vendor that can't speak to your state's privacy framework should not be on your shortlist.
What Louisiana athletic directors actually deal with
- LHSAA operates a select/non-select postseason split — uniquely structured in U.S. HS athletics. Football has five enrollment-based classes (1A-5A) plus four select-school Divisions (I-IV); since 2016 the same split applies to basketball, baseball, and softball. Open-enrollment, charter, magnet, and private schools that draw students from outside zoning compete on the "select" side; zoned public schools compete "non-select."
- LSU football pulls statewide recruiting visibility — most top-tier LA athletes are evaluated by LSU, Louisiana Tech, ULL, and ULM in addition to SEC + power-conference recruiters. New Orleans and Baton Rouge produce the densest recruiting clusters; the Acadiana and North Louisiana clusters round out the recruiting map.
- Hurricane-season scheduling realities (Aug-Nov) and football-season storm postponements are recurring operational complications for LHSAA football schools — distinct from inland-state ADs. Schedule re-coordination at short notice is part of the role.
- Louisiana RS 17:3914 carries up to $10K fines AND up to three years imprisonment for knowing violations — among the rarer state-level student-data statutes that include criminal penalties. Vendor compliance documentation is treated seriously by LA district procurement.
