Alaska does not have a dedicated student-data privacy statute equivalent to California's SOPIPA. Student records are governed federally by FERPA; vendor-side data handling is also subject to APIPA (Alaska Personal Information Protection Act, AS 45.48.010–090) for breach notification and reasonable-security obligations to Alaska residents. What Alaska athletic directors actually deal with
- Travel logistics are the dominant operational reality for Alaska ADs — bush and rural schools across ASAA's outlying regions require chartered flights for away games. A single state-tournament trip from a village school can cost more than a Lower 48 program's entire travel budget.
- ASAA classifies basketball, volleyball, and most sports as 1A through 4A based on high-school enrollment, but football uses its own Division I / Division II / Division III structure — ADs running multi-sport calendars carry two classification systems simultaneously.
