Coach Verified Stats

Coach Verified is one of the three stat-verification categories used in the Lightning recruiting platform. Each category answers a different question: who\'s vouching for this number, and what\'s their basis for vouching?

The three verification categories

• Self-reported: The athlete (or parent) entered the number themselves. No external verification. Lowest credibility weight to college coaches.
• Coach Verified: The athlete\'s high-school or club coach formally vouches that the number is accurate. Carries real credibility because the coach is putting their reputation behind it.
• Tournament Verified: The number was captured from a live-scored tournament event using verified tracking. Highest credibility because the data comes from an objective measurement environment.

Why Coach Verified matters

College coaches recruit through trusted networks. A HS coach\'s opinion of their own athletes carries weight. When a HS or club coach formally verifies a number, the college coach is effectively getting that coach\'s endorsement of the athlete\'s data — much more useful than a self-reported number that may or may not be accurate.

How it works on Lightning

Coaches use a separate Lightning for Coaches workflow to verify stats on athletes they coach. The athlete\'s profile displays the verification status next to each measurable. College coaches searching the database can filter by verification level.

What this means for athletes and parents

If you want your profile to carry weight with college coaches, make sure your HS or club coach is on Lightning and has verified your stats. Profiles full of self-reported numbers get less attention than profiles with Coach Verified or Tournament Verified data.
